US steel shipments down by 3.1pct MoM in April 2012 - AISI

The American Iron & Steel Institute reported that for the month of April 2012, US steel mills shipped 8.245 million tons, a 3.1% MoM decrease from the 8.512 million tons shipped in March 2012 and a 13.6% YoY increase from the 7.258 million tons shipped in April 2011.
YTD 2012 shipments are 33,663,439 tons, a 13.1% YoY increase vs 2011 shipments of 29,760,685 for four months.
A MoM comparison of shipments shows the following changes:
Hot rolled sheet, up by 1% MoM
Hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down by 2% MoM
Cold rolled sheet, down by 3% MoM
